| The CJA was founded in 1961 by Jaguar enthusiast Dick Trenk and a small band of owners of early Jaguar cars. The interest of the club was focused on the cars of S.S. Cars, Ltd. and on the cars of the immediate post war period of Jaguar Cars, Ltd., the MK V Jaguars and the "MK IV" Jaguars. The first roster, in the first issue of the club newsletter dated June, 1961, listed 37 members. The CJA operated as a correspondence club with a Chicago address, and members were all in the United States or Canada. |
| In 1968 the first successful meet was held in California, and the club began to be centered there. Membership rose to several hundred with many overseas members. |

In succeeding years the focus of the club expanded to include later model Jaguars such as the XK series of the fifties and e-types of the sixties and beyond. The club maintains register listings of the various models and the newsletter, the News and Technical Bulletin, carries articles concerning maintenance and restoration of the cars. Regular activities, include club dinners and swap meets. |
